Home-Based Bunker Sales Soar As Natural Disaster Numbers Rise
There’s no more need for disaster-genre blockbusters to unnerve us anymore. Just one quarter of a way into 2011 and we have witnessed a string of international disasters ranging from earthquakes, tsunamis and nuclear disasters in Japan, a large earthquake in New Zealand and uprisings engulfing the Arab world spurring fuel shortages. Perhaps it’s no longer as crazy as it was back in 1999 to think: the end is nigh.
Sometime this year the National Security Staff of Washington conducted a study that updated the state guideline for living through a calamity. The summarized report suggests that when caught in the occurrence of a doomsday disaster, especially one with a nuclear nature, the optimum countermeasure would be an interior or subterranean refuge. The study even specifies that evacuation should be the last measure taken by anyone.
Thus it is understandable that private firms like Green Eye Technology have been growing exponentially in the recent years. According to CEO George Welhalf, the number of calls they’ve been getting have been surging by the day, as more and more people are feeling less optimistic for tomorrow and are eager to find out if there’s anyway they can survive the worst case scenarios. Welhalf have reminded his critics that although he and his line of work do not claim any gifts of supernatural foresight, their purpose is to let people feel more hopeful for their own future.
These emergency shelters come in a wide selection of specifications. Some are meant to accommodate a single family unit, while others can fit an entire neighbourhood. While the emphasis is to achieve a military-level of shielding for its occupants, these 21st century fallout shelters are also designed with homelike comforts, unlike their predecessors in the mid 20th century. A welcoming feature to people who might be put off by the idea of living underground, where many of life’s routines will no longer be available. There’ll be no need to pass your drivers license test or invest in a canoe, though in the case of some of the shelters, they are big enough for things like indoor basketball hoops.
The main focus however, is that these shelters are constructed with the purpose to persevere not just most serious storms and quakes, but also other possible man-originated disasters. Radioactive fallout, electromagnetic pulse and germ warfare just to name a few. With an in-house air filtration, power generator, and a large storage facility for food and water, these shelters have the capacity to allow its occupants survive underground from weeks to years at a time.
In the same time, shelter companies like Green Eye are also gaining prospective contracts from governmental entities. In the event that an governmental building is taken out of action by a disaster, an emergency communication bunker will become mandatory. Not to mention they will also be interested in protective vaults for their sensitive papers and database servers.
Business owners like Elan Yadan are now embracing this new line of industry, putting down 20,000 dollars of deposit for a spot reservation, instead of using it as the down payment for a new home like he originally intended. Because according to him, if you are not a psychic or a scientist, it is better to err on the side of caution.
Some of these shelter manufacturers can offer car garages in their designs. Clearly not every type of disaster will render the roads useless, so don’t feel discouraged about saving up for some wheels – just don’t forget to check the car information before you pay for that used car!
